The Idea Behind Park, Charge and Ride

The idea behind “Park, Charge and Ride” is based on wishing to convert the large spaces of parking lots into areas for the production of clean energy. The car park in LĂĽtzen/Zorbau (Germany) proved to be the ideal and strategic location, with high footfall and long downtimes for most vehicles, where to test both the acceptance of electromobility and a greater integration of PV electricity for e-mobility.

Project Implementation

The meeco Group, in cooperation with Mr. Jan Schäfer, designed and developed an initial solution on 3 carport structures including approx. 210 kWp sun2park® solar system, sun2safe® storage battery of 306 kWp capacity, and 6 charging stations for e-cars expandable to 36 in the future.

meeco has considered the simultaneous installation of a sun2safe® storage system to ensure better integration of solar power into the electricity grid and electric vehicles. Furthermore, market volatilities are also to be exploited to increase returns and have a higher integration of renewable energies.

Future Expansion

This project is intended to serve as a “test balloon” for upgrading other commuter parking lots to GreenMobility hubs. “If testing is successful, as meeco and I believe,” states Mr. Schäfer, “the site will be expanded and new locations developed around Germany. In future, more and more solar power will be generated directly at parking lots, thus responding to the requirements of emission-free mobility.”
