Innovations driving the global energy transformation were discussed in Bonn
This week, the “IRENA Innovation Week 2018: Solutions for a Renewable-Powered Future” has taken place in Bonn, Germany. Around 250 leading companies, innovators, policy makers and investors participated in this event presenting and discussing technologies and business models that can accelerate the renewable power transition. Thereby, policy makers and industry representatives had the opportunity to exchange and inform each other about the status of such emerging technologies and innovations, necessary regulations and the general needs of the transforming electricity sector. As a winner of the CREF award for the implementation of the best utility scale solar project in the Caribbean a 10 MWp solar energy project cluster for Antigua and Barbuda, we were invited to participate in this renowned event and share our visions and approaches for a sustainable energy future.
Within the so-called Global Innovation Showcase, our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sebastian Bovensiepen and our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Thomas Beindorf presented the innovative 10 MWp solar project cluster realised together with PV Energy on the twin-island state Antigua and Barbuda. Through the implementation of the 10 MWp clean energy project on the Caribbean islands, especially the installation of a 3 MWp sun2live solar power plant at the V.C. Bird International Airport Antigua and the equipment of public buildings with our sun2roof solar rooftop systems, we continue to contribute to a green electricity supply in the Caribbean state. During the 90-minute showcase session, participants presented the problem their solution addresses and explained the realisation and future potential of the respective innovations within small group discussions.
“It was a great pleasure for us to participate in this important international event, which brought together representatives of diverse branches within the clean energy sector as well as high-ranking policy makers, investors and scientists. During the intense conversations, we were able to initiate some interesting new contacts, identify potential partners in several countries and discuss new approaches in terms of clean energy projects and business models”, states our CEO Sebastian Bovensiepen. “We really want to thank IRENA for the opportunity to be part of this perfectly organised and prepared conference, which represented and united the broad range of forward-thinking approaches around the world”.
