SOLAR POWER FOR A 1920s’ SAFARI CAMP

Through its African subsidiary meeco Africa Projects GmbH, meeco developed a solar energy project for a 1920’s Safari Camp in Kenya. This Safari lodge offers high-class accommodation for nature loving tourists. In order to reduce the use of polluting and cost-intensive diesel generators and comply with the requirements of the guests, a ground-mounted sun2live solar system with a size of 49.9 kWp will be installed at the premises of the lodge. In combination with a 50 kVA sun2safe, which is an solar energy conversion, management and storage system with a storage capacity of 160 kWh, a consistent clean energy supply eliminating disturbing outages and environment-unfriendly emissions will be ensured.

In order to enable a precise design and dimensioning of the clean energy solution and thereby guaranteeing the economic efficiency of the project, meeco carried out an exact consumption analysis for the Safari camp in advance. The collected data revealed an imbalance of the energy loads in the afternoon and evening, which will be balanced by the sun2live solar solution and the sun2safe energy management and storage system. Thanks to the comprehensive analysis and diligent project development, the sun2live and sun2safe solar project represents an interesting and highly reliable investment opportunity.

Located in the Masai Mara National Reserve, this Safari Camp benefits from a high solar radiation throughout the whole year and thus from perfect climate conditions for the use of clean energy provided by the sun. The sun2live and sun2safe solar systems developed and installed by meeco will generate clean energy leading to a reduction of the use of diesel by approx. 90%. Thereby up to 2,000 tons of CO2 emissions will be saved in the project during its min expected life time, which has a significantly positive impact on the environment. meeco’s clean energy solutions perfectly comply with the approach of the Safari lodge to create a balance between economic viability, sustainable protection of the environment and social engagement. Investors thus also support the local communities and the further development of a sustainable tourism in Kenya.
